Signup guidelines!

Signups for Yuri Challenge will open on Tuesday the 13th, first thing in the morning in the mods' time zone (but we're on the west coast of the US, so it will probably be pretty late in the day for some of you!). There will be a post here to let you know as soon as the form goes live. Signups happen on the AO3 so we can take advantage of their automated matching tools.

If you've already played in AO3-based exchanges, the signup form will look pretty familiar to you. If you haven't, we have a handy guide here with some screenshots.

First off, you'll find the signup page here: -- note that you'll need to be signed in to the AO3 to access the page, and also that link won't work until signups are live; until then it'll just return an error if you try to go there.

But on Tuesday, you'll get to a page where you input your requests and offers! Like so:

Requests come first on the page; by default there are places for three requests, but you can add an optional fourth if you have another fandom you want to ask for.

All of the fandoms nominated for the challenge are listed as check boxes. By default there's a scroll bar to see them, but you can click on the "See all" button to expand the list and view them all at once if you prefer:

Once you've selected a fandom, clicking in the character box below will pull up an auto-complete list of the characters who are available. Choose at least two and not more than four characters -- or, if you'd be happy with works featuring any of the ladies who were nominated, check the "Any" box.

The other two request fields are optional rather than required -- you can fill out a signup without putting anything in the "link" or "details" fields and you won't get an error. These fields are encouraged, though! They're a good place to let your writer/artist know what your favorite things about your chosen fandom/characters are, and if you have ideas for something you'd especially love to see, and if there are any themes you'd really rather avoid. Help your writer/artist find inspiration!

Once you're done with your requests, it's time to move on to offers!

The offer part of the form is similar to the request part, with just a few differences.

You can offer more characters than you can request -- that's a simple matter of practicality, since offering a larger number makes it easier to find someone you match, where requesting more makes it harder.

Offering "Any" is also an option! Note that doesn't rope you into "any character who has ever been in the canon," just "any character who was nominated," so don't fret if you're offering a fandom with dozens of characters (Suikoden games, I am looking at you!).

Once you've put in your three required offers, you'll come to a button at the bottom of the form asking if you'd like to add more:

If you have more fandoms you'd like to offer, click that button to get another "Offer" field to pop up. Please don't feel obligated to offer more fandoms than you're really comfortable with -- in an ideal world, everyone will wind up assigned to a fandom that they love and are excited about! But if you can comfortably offer more than three, you are welcome and encouraged to do so: more options means generating matches should go more smoothly.

Can't wait to see you all in the signups!
